April 9-13

Monday:

Today we learned what reading "fluently" means and practiced doing this on our own. We used a small decodable book to practice and then we got to try reading fluently to our friend.  We went to P.E. and music today!
Tuesday:

Today we went to the LMC and bought books at the book fair. Mrs. Guttmann also read us two books.  We went to both P.E. and music again!  We learned how being aware of the both the spaces and periods help us to read fluently. We practiced by ourselves and with a partner. We also made 3D shapes with straws and twist ties.

Wednesday:
Today we learned about exclamation marks and question marks and how they help us read fluently too!  We practiced all together and then we made our own books to practice with.  We did "making words" today with the -ill word family.  In math we learned all about the quarter.
Thursday:
Today we read a book called, Look Closer and then made our own book just like the author did.  We played a dice addition game in math with a partner and had a great time!  We did "making words" again but this time we used the -ook word family!
Friday:

Today was a busy day!  We read a book about vacations and talked all about our favorite vacations. Boy did we go to a lot of places!!  We had Justin's All About Me and he did a great job.  We also got to watch the band and orchestra perform for us! That was so neat to see!

April 2-5

KB’s Week in Review: April 2-5
Monday:

Today we started focusing on a reading strategy a day and today we worked on “getting your mouth ready” and “looking at the picture clues”.  We practiced as a whole class and then worked individually in our own small books we made. It is fun learning to decode words!

Tuesday:

Today we worked on “chunking”, which is finding small words we know inside larger words to help us decode the word.  We got to do a word search with our friends today!  We went to P.E. and music and had a great time.

Wednesday:

Today we worked on “skipping and reading on”.  This is a hard strategy but we did a great job practicing as a class.  We made our own small books again and practiced our new strategy. We had KinConnect today and Mrs. Wang did a great job!

Thursday:

Today we worked on “what makes sense” when decoding a word. We made a tracking book and had to write a word on the line that would make sense in the sentence. That was fun!  We talked about dividing things in half in math and symbolic representations of patterns.

Friday:
No School!

All About Me:
Next Week’s All About Me is Justin Wang!
